Inspired by true stories of those who were raised in the country.

"A Lady of Means"

One day I sat down by a lady of means

who was recounting her long ago dreams.

“I was raised on a farm,” she nodded with pride.

“There’s nothing about it that I want to hide.

Butchering chickens and weaning the hogs.

Branding the cattle and loving on dogs.

“Mending the fences and driving the tractors.

Running the prairies and swinging from rafters.

Tending the garden and canning the meats.

Playing with tadpoles and wading in creeks.

Learning our lessons in a one room school

and climbing on top of a Brahma Bull.

“Sewing up jeans with colorful patches

and getting a licking with briar thatches.

Watching Robins royally perched

through opened windows of a country church.

“Going to dances in a big red barn.

That was my life growing up on a farm.

You’d never know now by looking at me

but deep down inside I will always be

a farm girl at heart, living life proud.

And we country girls are in every crowd.”

My Musing for the Week … Casting Memories

Whatever the future holds.

Whatever comes to pass.

Twill always be a song to sing

and memories to cast.
